VAGUS NERVE
STIMULATION SYSTEM

Xana™ has developed and patented a wearable & miniaturized neurostimulator of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve.

This unique neurostimulator is easily managed from an App, and delivers pleasant electrical pulses with  maximum comfort and efficacy thanks to its flexible and non-metallic embedded electrodes.

Our scientific team has created and validated a pattern of stimulation to obtain the most efficient way to stimulate the vagus nerve.

Moreover, our stimulator measures and records the charge (dose) injected  in each session and its effect on the body.

Through the photopletismography-PPG the system continuously monitors several physiological indexes to test the efficacy of the neurostimulation.

Our neurostimualtion system allows therapists to access our cloud platform DASM (Data Analysis & Stimulation Management) to easily personalize the treatments.

OUR AURICULAR VAGUS NERVE STIMULATOR (aVNS) IS THE ONLY SYSTEM ABLE TO MEASURE DOSE EFFECT AND TREATMENT EFFECTIVENESS IN REAL TIME.

VAGUS NERVE “REST & DIGEST”

The vagus nerve (VN), the principal component of the parasympathetic nervous system, is a mixed nerve composed of 80% afferent and 20% efferent fibers.

Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system  slows your heart rate, regulates your breathing, and send signals to several organs (heart, lungs, stomach…). The ‘rest and digest’ period is well underway.

Vagus nerve stimulation involves the use of a device to stimulate the vagus nerve with electrical impulses.

Traditionally it has been used as an invasive device but it has been demonstrated that the non-invasive stimulation of this nerve (through the neck or the ear) activates the same brain areas. Nature 2021.

PERSONALIZED TREATMENTS

Our medical team has developed an algorithm (Heart Rate Variability gaining index- HRVGI©) to measure the efficacy of the treatment in real time, helping doctors to personalize therapies.

Cardiac variability (Heart Rate Variability-HRV) is defined as the dynamics of variations that exist in the temporal distance (separation) between consecutive heartbeats. HRV is a physiological phenomenon associated with the normal functioning of the human heart, which is being used as a diagnostic tool for several medical diseases.

However, current methods of HRV analysis have challenged its reliability as a measure to establish precise and long-term diagnostics for the management of medical diseases.

HRVGI© solves these handicaps by offering doctors and patients an empirical and clinically validated tool to aid in the diagnosis and  personalization of the treatments.

ANATOMICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL & CARDIOLOGICAL RESEARCH

OPTIMAL SITE OF STIMULATION

In collaboration with Prof. JA Vega, an international expert in the neuroanatomy of the Peripheral Nervous System, we has conducted several anatomical research studies to define the optimal site for the stimulation of the auricular vagus nerve with the aim to create the most efficient neurostimulation device in the medical market.

HIGHER EFFICACY vs. COMPETITORS

Through a clinical trial directed by Dr. Iñaki Gurtubay, Head of Neurophysiology Unit, University Hospital of Navarra, Spain, our aVNS is more efficient at activating the vagus nerve compared to other clinically validated methods for the treatment of neurological diseases such as migraine and epilepsy.

CARDIOLOGICAL SAFETY

Dr. David Calvo, a reputed international cardiologist from the San Carlos University Hospital, Madrid, Spain, has conducted a clinical trial to demonstrated the cardiological safety of our vagus nerve stimulator.

ECG data was monitored 12 hours a day during a 21-day period, in order to analyze the impact of VNS on cardiological function using dose that exceeded our treatment maximum dose by 25%.

Results have demonstrated the absolute safety of our neurostimulation device with no adverse impact in the cardiological function or any other side effects.

The results of this study are pending of publication.
